Woman in Black, The * (PG-13)

As horror flicks go, one of the less common flaws is dullness. This one manages to be so boring, that it overshadows the post-Harry Potter evolution of Daniel Radcliffe as an actor. One might quibble with the choice to anchor a film that takes place in a creepy old run-down mansion (one that makes Hogwarts look cozy) in a bleak little village, haunted by apparitions of a woman with a penchant for killing off the local kiddies. As Radcliffe wanders interminably through the estate, reacting to an assortment of sounds, movements and sightings, one wonders why this Muggle version of our former hero is hanging around so long? Wandless and clueless. The next question is whether it’s too late for a ticket refund.
Due to an apparent lack of material, the camera stays on its star for much longer and to far less avail than anyone could have possibly imagined. By the time they get to some explanations and actions, few in the house are likely to care. This one should rank high on your Must-Miss list. (2/3/12)
